Refurbishing the Radisson Blu: Working in a Live Hotel Environment

JGM recently worked on an exciting and challenging project to upgrade the core building services at the bustling city centre Radisson Blu Hotel while the establishment remained open and fully functional.

The Radisson Blu Hotel is very popular with visitors to the city because of its proximity to Edinburgh’s major attractions and because of the charming turreted building it occupies.

While the upgrade work was being carried out, it was essential that the hotel could remain in operation, and that disruption to guests and staff was kept to a minimum.

This crucial requirement for the project called for careful and detailed planning. The different elements of the project – design, installation, testing and demonstration – were delivered in a phased manner in order to allow the hotel to continue operating as usual. JGM maintained regular contact with the client to keep them up to speed with the project and to communicate how other requirements, such as the adherence with laws and regulations that apply to the hotel, were being met.

Despite the obvious challenges of carrying out extensive electrical and mechanical upgrades in a live hotel environment, the project was completed within the time and budget specifications.

JGM designed, coordinated, installed and tested electrical and mechanical upgrades on the hotel floors, function suites and back of house areas. Services included installation and upgrade of main and sub-main power, new key and guest room control systems and upgraded specification for the air conditioning, heating, cooling systems and controls.
