Recently we caught up with Lynne McNicoll, who founded the charity ‘It’s Good 2 Give’ in 2010 with her husband Ian. The charity supports young cancer patients and their families, across Scotland, by offering services that aim to make their life easier in their time of need. Ripple Retreat was opened by the charity in May 2017 and has become a safe haven for many young people in Scotland. The goal was to create a retreat where families could spend a few days together, away from the busy hospital ward.
Our very own Keith Johnston has been leading on the Controls element of Ripple Retreat for the past few years. Keith’s brief in 2017 was to provide the customer a building management system with a user friendly web interface. With this in mind the following building components were interfaced to monitor and operate from the controller web page, designed with Ian and Lynne’s input:
Due to having remote capability, any issues with the plant can be brought to our attention and resolved promptly, preventing cancellations or interference with visitors.
The remote connectivity and web page allow Lynne and her team to remotely ensure that the retreat is at the optimum temperature for families arriving and lights are on to welcome them.
All of these capabilities have been made possible with the Resource Data Management controller. Our JGM controls team are an approved system partner with RDM, and the above success has also been reflected within our Department of Working and Pensions and car showrooms projects.
Below can be seen some examples of the control software from RDM and images of Ripple Retreat and the systems in place.
